2013 Museum 'Tallavera' Shiraz

A complex mix of spice, earth and ripe mulberry fruit integrated well with savoury oak. The palate is medium bodied and fruit driven displaying sweet berry fruit balanced by fine tannins providing great texture and a classically elegant finish.

Fermented on skins at 18 - 20 Degrees for 7 days.
Matured in selected French oak for 14 months prior
to blending and bottling.

A dry winter and early spring was followed with
good rains early in the growing season for Vintage
2013. Crop levels were low and bursts of hot dry
weather led to early ripening of whites. Warm dry
weather in early February saw most of the Shiraz
harvested at good sugar levels with nice flavour
balance. Very good vintage overall from the
Hunter Valley.

Our Limited Release ‘Tallavera’ Shiraz comes from
its namesake vineyard in the Mount View area of
the lower Hunter Valley. The Mount View area
contains 3 small protected subvalleys with highly
favourable soils influenced by the large proportion
of limestones in the underlying rocks. Terra Rossa
clays over crumbly limestone and free draining red
and brown clay loams cover hill slopes and are
planted to red varieties.

From the Tallavera Vineyard on Mount View with crumbly
limestone under terra rossa clays. Matured in French
puncheons (35% new) for 14 months. Marries elegance,
textured complexity and freshness even though 10 years old.
Savoury, spicy and immensely satisfying. 96 POINTS - HALLIDAY WINE COMPANION 2016
James Halliday, August 2015

The Tallavera Vineyard is in the Mount View district, noted for its
crumbly red soils over limestone. Here the intensity of the fruit
of the bouquet and palate goes up several notches, black
cherries joining the fray along with plum and mulberry; the
tannins are scaled up proportionately, the finish similarly
lengthened. A classic Hunter shiraz of very high quality.
