2010 Museum Hunter Valley Semillon

Our Limited Release Semillon comes from the famous Trevena Vineyard on Hermitage Road in the lower Hunter Valley. This heritage vineyard owned and run by Hec Trevena was planted in 1920 and consistently produces benchmark Hunter Semillon. The well drained, ‘alluvial’ soils lead to a unique expression of what is considered to be Australia’s greatest white wine sytle. Vibrant aromas of lemongrass and lime dominate the nose. A crisp and lively palate displaying classic citrus flavours delivering wonderful length and definition. A classic Hunter Semillon to be enjoyed now, or cellared for wonderful bottle developed characters.

Bottled early to retain freshness and vitality of the primary fruit flavours.

Despite the hot conditions, post Christmas, we picked the first grapes on the 28th January, four days later then last year. This year we picked 4 different parcels of Semillon. From these we made the Single Vineyard, Grand Reserve and specially blended Limited Release Semillon. 2010 is a fantastic year for Hunter Semillon, the conditions being perfect for great fruit intensity whilst maintaining elegance and length of flavour - real keepers!

Pepper Tree's Hunter Valley vineyard is in the Mount View area of the Lower Hunter Valley in the sheltered foothills of the Brokenback Range and covers 38.5 ha of plantings. The area boasts highly favourable soils influenced by the large proportion of limestone in the underlying rocks. Alluvial loams along the vineyard's creek flats are ideal soils for Semillon and Verdelho.

Australian wine companion 2012 - 94 Pale straw-green; the aromas are complex, with lemongrass and meadow, the palate with gentle lime flavours backed by perfectly balanced acidity. All it needs is time. From the Trevena Vineyard. Drink to 2019.
