Fermented on skins at 18 - 20 Degrees for 7 days.
Matured in selected French oak for 12 months
prior to blending and bottling.
The Hunter 2014 vintage started the season with
good rains. Budburst in late August. Very good
growing season with warm mild weather. Whites
ripened very early and harvest started on January
8th. Ripening proceeded smoothly with no rain and
no excessive heat. All whites were picked in good
condition with very good flavour and balance.
Reds were even better. Shiraz from this year was the
best for many years and has produced outstanding
wines with great depth and balance. Excellent
vintage.
Tallawanta Vineyard is based at the foothills of the
Brokenback Range in the Hunter Valley between
Hunter Valley Gardens and Harrigan’s irish Pub on
Broke Rd, Pokolbin. This was one of the jewels in the
crown of the Elliott family-owned wine company
and was acquired by the Roche group when it
bought the former Hungerford Hill Wine Village site.
The vineyard is now leased by Pepper Tree for a 10
year term with the option to renew at the end of
that period.
Hunter shiraz in all its medium weight glory. Earthen but
not gamey, spicy but neatly so, awash with cherry and
plum fruit flavour and appropriately adorned in cedary
oak. Tannin pours and churns through, firm but fair. In all
respects a gorgeous wine, with a wonderful future
ahead.
